Opening up the great outdoors to all...

Paddles and Boots has the strong belief that people with disabilities should not miss out on the freedom and experience of our natural environment. The benefits of kayaking for physically or developmentally disabled people are the same as for everyone else - fresh air, exercise, relaxation, appreciation of the flora, fauna, and the music of the paddle. There is an emphasis on safety in all areas of this sport; instructors are qualified and the ratio of paddlers to instructor is kept low, sometimes 1:1 if necessary.

Testimonials

"Even the most fearful and challenging students will come away with more confidence and an appreciation of kayaking as a sport and fun activity."
- Lucy Meckler

"feeling free with nature."
- Simon Qiggaittuq

"I had a wonderful afternoon."
- Andrea Tipping

Opportunities for adaptive recreation are increasing, but slowly. With this in mind, this business supports positive action by not only providing a kayaking experience but integrating this sport with other recreational activities (see Resources). Hopefully, in the future Paddles and Boots will be able to offer hiking and all-terrain "wheelchairing".
